The Seiko 5 Sports GMT SSK001 is available in a "Made in Japan" version, typically identified by the model number SSK001J1 (international) or SBSC001 (Japanese Domestic Market). While the core specifications are identical to the standard SSK001K1, enthusiasts often seek the "J" or SBSC versions for their perceived collectible value and specific aesthetic differences.

Key Characteristics of "Made in Japan" Models

While the internal movement (Caliber 4R34) is the same across all versions, the Japan-made models feature specific markings and minor finishing differences.

Dial Markings: Genuine "Made in Japan" versions will have the text "MADE IN JAPAN" printed in small font at the bottom of the dial, typically near the 6 o'clock marker.

Case Back: The exhibition case back will also be engraved with "MADE IN JAPAN". Models made elsewhere may say "Movement Japan" or have no origin marking on the case.

Bracelet Differences: According to some collectors on Reddit, the JDM-specific SBSC001 features a fully brushed jubilee-style bracelet, whereas the international SSK001K1 (and some SSK001J1 versions) has polished center links for a dressier look.

Model Numbering:

SSK001J1: The "Made in Japan" version for international markets.

SBSC001: The specific version sold within Japan (JDM).
